Wacky Breakout

A game developer course I took had me making a version of Breakout called "Wacky Breakout". I made my version look like Arkanoid and borrowed some of the sound effects from the arcade version.

There's a surprising amount of work that goes into a simple game like this, especially with regards to the physics related to the ball hitting the paddle and the bricks. Regular physics simulation with gravity is not really an option, because the game wouldn't behave anything like you'd expect Breakout to behave if you did that. Instead, to get that arcade-y feel you need to fake most of the physics interaction.

I used to play Arkanoid at the arcades all the time in the 80s and on my Amiga a few years later. I loved that game, though I recognize that the game mechanics aren't sophisticated enough to hook a modern audience. I may revisit it later and remove the Wacky for the normal, but for now, this is the best I could do in the time I had.
