One week in Silicon Valley
During Zendcon week in october I'll be travelling to the US and staying in Santa Clara. The flight was relatively smooth sailing, but it sure takes time. I left Norway at half past two in the afternoon and arrived at my final destination seven AM the next morning (norwegian time, local time was ten PM the same day).
So, I arrived a couple of days before the conference is starting. I'm pretty happy I decided to that, because saturday morning was a total bust. I felt really miserable. Getting my internal clock up to speed is going to take time. I guess I'll get there around the time I'm about to leave...
Why Zendcon? As part of the developer team at Scandinavia Online (SOL), I've been tasked with spearheading the effort to bring a modern framework into the core of our operations. In preparing for the conference, we have over the past few months developed a new site from scratch using Zend Framework 2.
The web site, which you can check out at SOL TV, will be our new home for video related material on SOL. It's a great example of what we can achieve in a relatively short time, but it's the stuff you can't really see when you browse the page that makes me really happy. With this site, we have the basic setup of what will become the next generation of SOL. It's built with the MVC pattern in mind, it's responsive and it's W3C compliant. It's also blazingly fast.
For Zendcon I've bascially structured my conference to catch all of the ZF2 related sessions. There are some other interesting topics, but there's only one of me... One additional bonus is that I'll get a chance to meet up with a few people I've only ever talked to on Twitter.
