Habits are powerful. When you learn how to routinely turn a wanted trait into a habit, there's no limit to what you can do.
You have control over your life. You may often feel that you don't, but the fact is that you do. If you want to write a book or learn a new language, you can do it. There's nothing stopping you, except yourself.
Of course, it's harder than it sounds. First of all, you have to want it. Second, you have to spend time mentally preparing yourself that this is something you are going to do. Finally, you have to do it. And you have to do it every day for a long time until it becomes a habit.
A great concept to help you is "Don't break the chain". Take a piece of paper, write down the thing you want to do and for every day you do it, mark it as done. After day 2, you have a chain. Keep the chain growing. If you break it, you have to start over again. Try to make the longest chain you can, and if you have to start over, try to beat your previous chain. Keep your chain visible and accessible. There are a few apps that can help you with this, but if you go that way, make sure it's not tucked away in the fifth page of your wall of app icons.
You don't need an app though, or a special "Don't break the chain"-calendar. A simple piece of paper will do, and you can keep it in your wallet when you're on the move.
